Vacation Highlights

We made it back from vacation- alive and speeding ticket free. Here are the daily highlights...

Saturday- Left for vacation 1 day early b/c we were so excited. Drove 8 hours and found a hotel in Richmond VA. The idea for the early departure was to get to the beach right away on Sunday. The hotel in Richmond was S-W-E-E-T. We got a room for the AAA rate of $72. Other guests checking in had $150 reservations. Boo-yah.

Sunday- Got to Outer Banks. It was overcast, cold and rainy So much for getting there early.

Monday- Beautiful, sunny day. Hit the beach first thing. Got a sunburn first thing. SPF 30 was not going to cut it on our fair skin so I went and bought SPF 50 and a wrap to cover my red legs for the rest of the week.

Tuesday- Another beautiful day spent sitting on the beach (wearing wrap and 50 sunblock). Also went for a 7 mile bike ride. Bike riding is easy when you are on a flat island with a gentle sea breeze.

Wednesday- Another rainy day. Hmm...good thing we brought an entire bag of books and the Olympics were on.

Thursday- Went to play tennis. Figured the occasion warranted a fresh can of balls. Mark sliced his finger opening the can - badly. Blood went everywhere. I nearly passed out (true part of story). A random lifeguard/medic on break gave Mark medical attention while we were at the gas station to buy him bandaids. Good thing that guy was getting a slurpee. Yes, after the cut was bandaged up and cleaned out we still played tennis. We also went to the beach (salt in the wounds is a good idea, right?). The waves started to pick up at this point. The theory on the island was this was due to the tropical storm working its way toward the US. Real surfers showed up to ride the waves which was pretty fun to watch. Mark used his boogie board to ride the waves, which resulted in a wave breaking his board in half (I told you they were big waves). We saw 8 other broken boards in the beach trash pile.

Friday- More wave jumping for me and boogie boarding for Mark. I called it quits after I ingested a gallon of salt water...after this I headed to the pool to ingest chlorine instead. Oh, and we went for another bike ride, but this one was less successful as Mark got a flat tire.

Saturday- Sad day b/c we had to leave and drive the whole 12 hours back home. Swung by Durham NC on the ride home and saw my childhood homes and met my old neighbor. Got home around 10:30/11pm--tired and back hurting.

There you have it--vacation extravaganza 2008. Woot.
